The UK’s best young journalists were celebrated last night at the 14th MHP Group 30 to Watch: Journalism awards.
Hosted at News UK, journalists were recognised across ten categories including News & Investigations, Production, Health and International Affairs.
Previous winners include Sophy Ridge of Sky News, Oliver Shah of The Sunday Times and Sabah Meddings from Bloomberg.
Gold winners revealed on the night included the Emily-Jane Heap from the Sun, Max Kendix of the Times, Robbie Boyd of Channel 4 Dispatches and Iona Hampson of BBC News.
The Breakthrough Award, for journalists that did not have the benefit of going to university, was won by the BBC’s Zoe Dennis. The full list of winners can be found here.
With more than 320 entries, the standard of submissions was extremely high. Award winning work included major tabloid splashes, in-depth investigations, podcasts, emotive lifestyle pieces and much more.
Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid, who this year celebrates 30 years in broadcast media, was presented with the Outstanding Achievement Award.
As part of a Q&A which followed her award, she raised concerns about the challenges posed to journalists by AI-generated content, but said the future of the industry is in safe hands.
She celebrated her win on Instagram and was congratulated the next morning by co-hosts Ranvir Singh and Robert Rinder: Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid honoured by co-stars for ‘outstanding achievement’ – The Mirror.
Sarah Whitehead, Head of News Gathering at Sky News gave an Introductory Speech saying: “This is an incredible group of winners, what extraordinary work you have done. There’s real hope and excitement for the future of journalism.”
