MHP Group, the leading integrated communications consultancy, has today announced the appointment of Alison Phillips as a Senior Adviser in MHP’s Strategic Media team.

Phillips is one of the leading figures in British journalism, having served as Editor-in-Chief at the Mirror for six years until January. During her tenure, the Mirror was Daily Newspaper of the Year and News Media Organisation of the Year in 2022 and earned a reputation for breaking major political stories, including the ‘Partygate’ scandal.

Phillips is Vice President of the Society of Editors and a Visiting Fellow of the Reuters Institute. She previously served as Chair of Women in Journalism.

Phillips will join MHP Group’s multi-award winning Strategic Media team, led by former Daily Mail News Editor, Keith Gladdis. The team, which provides specialist advice and support to MHP Group’s full roster of clients, is formed of ten former journalists, with backgrounds in diverse fields including health, science, finance, politics and tech.

Phillips will also support MHP’s Public Affairs team, working alongside the team’s existing Labour specialists, including Josh Kaile and Atul Hatwal, to provide Labour insight. Phillips’ appointment follows the recent arrival of former Government Communications Service Deputy CEO, Lisa Hunter, as MHP’s Head of Strategic Communications.

Commenting on the appointment, MHP Head of Strategic Media, Keith Gladdis, said:

“Alison has an unrivalled understanding of the UK media landscape and has been responsible for breaking and covering many of the biggest stories in recent history. As Editor-in-Chief of Britain’s leading left-leaning title for six years, she also has invaluable insight into the dynamics and personalities shaping Labour thinking. I’m delighted to be working with her.”

Alison Phillips, Senior Adviser, MHP Group, added:

“I’m delighted to be joining the MHP team and I’m excited to take my experience in dealing with complex stories and running successful campaigns into relationships with clients. MHP has a fantastic commitment to hiring journalistic talent and, as a great believer in the importance of inspiring and encouraging the next generation of journalists, I am proud to be joining an organisation which has done so much to support the industry through the MHP 30 to Watch Awards.”
