The work

GoDaddy – a leading provider of web domains, web hosting and marketing services to micro businesses (1-9 employees) – has a wealth of owned data. Each time a new small business website is created, GoDaddy can pinpoint, to postcode level locality, where that new start-up is based.

We launched “Venture Forward”, a new thought leadership platform for the brand in the UK. It incorporated:

  • ‘Venture density’ scores for each political constituency – using GoDaddy’s data to identify how many micro businesses there are for each 100 people in a community
  • An academic partnership with the University of Kent to analyse how micro business hotspots correlate with broader socioeconomic success indicators
  • A survey among GoDaddy’s UK customers

We used the combined results for national, regional and trade media stories, and a parliamentary reception at the House of Commons.

The impact

We secured 66 pieces of quality media coverage, including national and international pieces with Forbes, Ian King Live on Sky News, City AM, Daily Mail, Mail on Sunday, This is Money, Daily Express and Daily Mirror. Our regional data was featured in publications including The Scotsman, Manchester Evening News and Wales Online.

The campaign has also been a launchpad for GoDaddy’s public affairs activity in the UK. More than 20 MPs attended the parliamentary reception, including Small Business Minister, Paul Scully.
